Convert a percentage to a 4.0 GPA
A percent is not a GPA. GradeKite first maps the percent to a letter, then the letter to points on a 4.0 scale. Dividing the percent by 25 (so 92 becomes 3.68) will not match this calculator or most U.S. registrars.
Percent → letter → points
These cutoffs are the ones the calculators display. Your syllabus wins if it differs.
| Percent | Letter | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 97 and up | A+ | 4.0 |
| 93–96.99 | A | 4.0 |
| 90–92.99 | A− | 3.7 |
| 87–89.99 | B+ | 3.3 |
| 83–86.99 | B | 3.0 |
| 80–82.99 | B− | 2.7 |
| 77–79.99 | C+ | 2.3 |
| 73–76.99 | C | 2.0 |
| 70–72.99 | C− | 1.7 |
| 67–69.99 | D+ | 1.3 |
| 63–66.99 | D | 1.0 |
| 60–62.99 | D− | 0.7 |
| Below 60 | F | 0.0 |
Then weight by credits
One course at 91% is an A−, worth 3.7. A 3-credit A− is 3.7 × 3 = 11.1 quality points. GPA is total quality points divided by total credits, not the average of the percents.
Open a 3-credit A− in the GPA calculator — the result is 3.7.
Several courses: use semester GPA from letter grades. Course weights inside one class are a different tool: weighted grade calculator.
Steps in the calculator
- Open the GPA calculator.
- Add one row per course with its letter and credits: A- (3 credits).
- Read the GPA at the top. Edit the letter map if your school uses different points.
