Weighted High School GPA

Add a bonus for Honors or AP, IB, and dual enrollment, then see the weighted GPA next to the unweighted 4.0. This is not a course-weight calculator and not the college GPA page.

Courses

Sample rows: an AP A is 5.0 weighted and 4.0 unweighted. Honors B is 3.5 and 3.0. A regular A− stays 3.7 either way. Confirm the bonus with your school.

Letter → points map (editable)

Base points only. Bonuses are added on top, except an F, which stays at its base points. Changes apply immediately and are saved locally.

How it works

  1. Pick a letter and credit hours for each course, then a level: Regular, Honors, or AP / IB / dual.
  2. Weighted GPA = Σ((base points + bonus) × credits) / Σ(credits). Unweighted GPA drops the bonus.
  3. Honors defaults to +0.5 and AP, IB, or dual enrollment to +1.0. Edit either number if your school publishes a different chart.
  4. An F, or any letter whose base points are 0, does not receive a bonus.
  5. Share or export — nothing is uploaded to a server. Check the result against your transcript.

FAQ

How is a weighted high school GPA calculated?

Weighted GPA = Σ((base points + bonus) × credits) / Σ(credits). Regular adds nothing. Honors defaults to +0.5 and AP, IB, or dual enrollment to +1.0. Both bonuses are editable. Unweighted GPA uses the same letters with the bonus left off.

Does an F in an AP class become a 1.0?

No. An F stays at its base points, which is 0.0 on the standard map. The level bonus is not added when the letter is F or the base points are 0.

Is this the same as the college 4.0 GPA calculator?

No. The college calculator is an unweighted 4.0 letter map and does not add AP or Honors bonuses. Weights inside one class, such as homework and a final, are a third tool on the homepage.

Will a college use this number?

Many high schools publish their own weighted scale. This page uses a common US pattern: Honors +0.5 and AP, IB, or dual +1.0 on a 4.0 base. Confirm the bonus, and which courses qualify, with your school before you report it.
