Semester GPA from letter grades
List each course’s letter and credits. Quality points are grade points times credits. Semester GPA is the sum of quality points divided by the sum of credits.
| Course | Letter | Points | Credits | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Biology | A | 4.0 | 3 | 12 |
| History | A | 4.0 | 3 | 12 |
| Algebra | B | 3.0 | 3 | 9 |
| English | B | 3.0 | 3 | 9 |
42 quality points ÷ 12 credits = 3.5. Two A’s and two B’s at the same credit load always land on 3.5 with this map. A 4-credit B pulls harder than a 3-credit B.
The letter map is editable up to 4.5 if your school differs. See the default chart and what a 3.5 GPA means.
