What is a 3.5 GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.5 sits halfway between a B (3.0) and an A (4.0). It is not a letter by itself, and it is not “87.5%” unless your school published that conversion.
Schedules that equal 3.5
- One A and one B with the same credits: (4 + 3) / 2 = 3.5.
- Two A’s and two B’s, 3 credits each: 42 / 12 = 3.5.
- An A− (3.7) and a B+ (3.3) at the same credits: (3.7 + 3.3) / 2 = 3.5.
To lift an existing cumulative up to 3.5, use GPA needed to reach a 3.5. High-school bonus points for AP are a different scale: weighted vs unweighted GPA.
Steps in the calculator
- Open the GPA calculator.
- Add one row per course with its letter and credits: A (3 credits), A (3 credits), B (3 credits), B (3 credits).
- Read the GPA at the top. Edit the letter map if your school uses different points.
