Weighted vs unweighted GPA
These words get mixed up. They are three different calculations.
Unweighted 4.0
An A is 4.0 in every class. This is the default GPA calculator map: A and A+ are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, and so on down to F at 0. Credits still matter.
Weighted high-school GPA
Some schools add a bonus for honors or AP, so an A can count as 5.0. GradeKite’s letter-map fields stop at 4.5, so a full 5.0 scale does not fit in the editor. Use the school’s published chart for that bonus, then you can still check the unweighted number here.
Weighted course grade
Homework 20% and a final 30% are weights inside one class, not a 5.0 GPA. That calculator is here.
Converting a percent into the unweighted map: percentage to GPA 4.0.
Steps in the calculator
- Open the GPA calculator.
- Add one row per course with its letter grade and credit hours.
- Leave the letter map on the standard 4.0 scale for an unweighted GPA.
- Read the GPA at the top.
