Extra credit in a points grade
Extra credit raises earned points without raising the work that was originally possible. Two ways to enter it match the calculator:
- Change 80/100 into 85/100 if the teacher added 5 points on that same item.
- Or add a row: earned 5, possible 0. Possible 0 is included. It does not get skipped.
80/100 plus 5/0 is 85 earned and 100 possible = 85%. Open the extra-credit rows.
Do not also add the 5 onto the first row. That would count the bonus twice. Weighted categories do not have a separate extra-credit switch; add the bonus inside the category it belongs to.
Steps in the calculator
- Open the points calculator.
- Enter each assignment as points earned / points possible: 80 / 100, 5 / 0.
- Set the goal (90%) and the points still to come (20).
- Read your percentage at the top and the points you still need below it.
